STREET HELP MESSAGE TO OUR WINDSOR-ESSEX COMMUNITY

Updated: Mar 18, 2020

Our vulnerable homeless community needs your help!

In these unprecedented times - we know this. Our homeless remain the most vulnerable and in greatest need for healthy food, water, supplies and compassion.

Matthew 25:35-36

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came and visited me.

With growing concerns around COVID-19, Street Help Homeless Centre instituted a "take-out service" process at it's centre located at 964 Wyandotte Street East.

The health and safety of our homeless, our volunteers and visitors is of the most importance. We have set up procedures to ensure we follow protocols as recommended by a wide range of public health organizations.

All we want to do is feed and support the homeless

We are following the lead of our local and Canadian public health agencies during this important time.

Our main goal: ensure our Centre remains a safe and comfortable environment for everyone concerned. As such we are doing the following;

  • Street Help continues to monitor developments related to COVID-19 daily as well as local public health protocols and recommendations

  • Staff, volunteers and visitors are being encouraged to educate and take care of themselves and practice effective hand-washing and good respiratory hygiene.

  • Regular cleaning protocols are in place to ensure a clean and hygienic workplace - with extra attention being paid to all hard surfaces inside our building. Areas in our kitchen, storage and office areas.

  • Soap for hand-washing is continues to be available for volunteers and visitors to use frequently

  • Volunteers are being encouraged to monitor their own health and use good judgement when experiencing flu-like symptoms by seeking medical attention and not attending the Centre

  • We are using a "take-out" window to pass food to the homeless. This is a one-way window. No items from the outside are passed back through this window.

Food Boxes including fresh and perishable goods are provided through this "take-out" window.
